| Adult Credit Courses (Gr. 10-12): |
Our day school operates on a 6 term year, offering 2 periods per day for the 5 terms from September to June, and 1 period per day during the 6th (Summer) semester. Students can earn secondary school credits and work toward completing their Grade 12 diploma. Core subjects of English, math and computers are offered most semesters with other subjects being offered on a rotating basis. Anyone wishing to register will meet first with a counsellor. Currently, there is a $15 student activity fee.
| Independent Learning Courses (Gr. 10-OAC): |
Through home study courses, developed by the Independent Learning Centre of the Ministry of Education, students can earn credits according to their own schedule.
They may register at any time and complete the 20 lessons required for each credit in as much or as little time as they can manage (within one year).
A $50 fee is due at registration, with up to $35 being refundable upon the completion of the course and the return of all learning materials.
A wide variety of courses from Grade 10 to OAC, academic, applied and workplace courses..
| Literacy & Upgrading for Credit & Employment: |
This is a free Adult Literacy program that offers basic skills training in reading, writing and math. Emphasis is placed on preparatory training for high school, employment or daily life skill tasks. Students will find a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where they will receive an individual or small group instruction as well as computer learning. The program runs Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 3:30 and Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:30. Students may register at any time and set up an individual timetable that meets their personal needs. There is no fee for this program.
| English as a Second Language: |
The ESL class offers an opportunity to learn English and improve the competency in reading, writing, listening and speaking. This is an English immersion setting, that is, English is the only language spoken in the classroom. Evaluation is done according to the Canadian Benchmark Standards for ESL. For this program the student may be assessed at Level 1 to 8, with Level 8 being the minimum standard for students who wish to enter mainstream English programs. A student fee may apply in certain circumstances depending on the immigration status of the individual. The class is open from 9:00 to 12:00 Noon, Monday to Friday. Students may register at any time.
| Driver's Education: |
To participate in Driver's Education, a student must:
The course includes 25 hours of classroom instruction plus 10 hours on-street driving, and up to 20 hours of observation evaluation training. Call the Tillson Avenue Education Centre for more information. The current course fee is $450 (subject to change).
Students will receive a certificate after attending all lectures and in-car training as well as attaining a minimum mark of 72%.
